Hi everyone! My name is Jenn! Nice to meet you all!
I am an Econ major and I think I am a sophomore, maybe a junior, but I’m really not sure. It feels like I have been here for a long time! I am a native Floridian, six generations from the same small town just south of Tampa. My family and I (husband and two kids – Chloe 15 and Gabriel 10) love anything outdoors. We live on the coast and salt runs deep in our veins! Any given weekend or weeknight after work, you can find us drifting down the river on paddle boards or diving the ruins from the Spanish American war out in the Gulf of Mexico. I am taking this course because I love living on the coast and science is just super cool. This will be my second course with Dr. Bralower, after taking his Climatology course two semesters ago. There is something about the smell of a beach and the journey off to another world that really takes me away. Being a full time student, mom, volunteering, being on the board for the local Little League, and somehow maintaining a 50+ hour work week in the mortgage industry, those few brief moments with my toes in the sand are MUCH needed! This summer, I hope to escape from it all on one of our little getaways. We will be renting a house in Cape Coral, FL in the next few weeks, and then off for scalloping in Crystal River later in June. We typically head down to the Keys in mid August for lobster season as well.
The blogs are one of my favorite assignments. I tend to really dig deep and try to touch on subjects that are personal for me. I hope that you all enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
Good luck everyone! Have a happy and fantastic SUMMER!
Hi Sarah! I’m not sure how I missed your reply earlier. I’m so happy to find a classmate that is local! Let me know if you need a study partner this semester.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your enthusiasm! I feel like i can feel your up beat positive energy miles away! I too love the outdoors and really just setting out on new adventures, whether its diving in the beautiful coral reefs of Okinawa japan or volunteering with different non-profits! I look forward to reading your blogs and learning about different coastal areas with you!
Hi Jenn! I am glad to see another Tampa Bay local. We are similar in that we love the out doors and being on the beach and out on the water. Paddle boarding is also a hobby of mine. We live in such a beautiful area with a high risk of flooding. It will be interesting to see if there are any preventative actions being taken to reduce the risk of damage in the area! I am looking forward to working with you this semester! Good luck, and enjoy your traveling this summer.
